Notes
*Title, Date and Signature: Of four observed impressions, none is titled, but all are signed and dated in the author's hand (l.r. corner).
**Medium and Color: Another color lithograph created during the same year and first exhibited in the same exhibition at Associated American Artists was printed in 7 colors using 7 separate plates. (See entry #49.) Most likely, this work was created by a similar process. ***Edition: Of four observed impressions, all are numbered, l.l. corner ("8" "10" "11" and "12"). Hence, presumably, there were at least 12 impressions. Exhibitions: AAA exhibition of 1939 "Luis Quintanilla.". In his review of this exhibition, Edward Alden Jewell of the New York Times writes, "This exhibition contains, besides all this, two colored lithographs one of which, about 4 1/2 by 6 feet in dimensions, must be the largest lithograph at present on view in New York. (One of the lithographs is very probably this one and the very large lithograph referred to is catalogue entry # 49.) |
